Atlanta's DeKalb
The most culturally diverse county
in Georgia, is home to some of the Southeast's greatest attractions
including Stone Mountain Park. DeKalb is the ideal destination with
its world-class eateries, great shopping areas and diverse arts venues.
Located just 10 miles from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport,
Atlanta's DeKalb is easily accessible from four major interstates:
I-85, I-20, I-75 and I-285. Atlanta's rapid transit system (MARTA)
also makes the county convenient to downtown Atlanta, Buckhead and
the airport.
Are you thinking of relocating to DeKalb County?
One of several U.S. cities named
after Naval hero Stephen Decatur, the city of Decatur offers a rich
blend of small-town charm and modern opportunity. Founded in 1823,
Decatur is the second oldest municipality in the Atlanta metropolitan
area and the seat of DeKalb County. Tree-lined streets and well-maintained
homes in mature neighborhoods serve the close to 18,000 people who
make Decatur their home. The city's Town Square is the center for
community activity, shopping and dining and has more than 40 restaurants,
galleries, boutiques and shops. It also hosts annual concerts, festivals
and parades. Unique shops and fine restaurants can be found at the
West Ponce Place Shopping Center. Local points of interest include
the Decatur Railroad Depot, Historic Sycamore Street and The Old Courthouse.
Decatur's nationally recognized school system's success is largely
due to the community's decision to make education a high
priority.
Nearly 65 cents of every tax dollar goes toward the city school district.
The average class size ranges from 18 to 26 students. Decatur continues
to have one of the highest percentages of certified employees with
advanced degrees in the state. DeKalb County is home to Emory University,
Oglethorpe University and other institutes of higher learning. Real
estate options in Decatur consist of single-family detached homes,
estate properties, condominiums, townhouses and land lots. Decatur
residents enjoy a rich heritage, community spirit and excellent educational
and employment opportunities.
